Director: Vasan Bala
Genre: Thriller
Available on: Netflix

After hearing all the buzz surrounding the similarities between Saavi and Jigra, I decided to watch this movie to judge for myself and give Jigra review uncensored. Despite the comparisons, it’s evident that apart from the shared concept of a jailbreak, the two films are entirely different. However, they share one unfortunate similarity: both fail to leave a lasting impact and end up being a disappointment for the audience.
The movie does offer a refreshing change with Alia Bhatt in a completely different role, showcasing her versatility. Unfortunately, beyond her performance, there’s little to commend. Vedang Raina delivers a meaningful role, and Manoj Pahwa provides some much-needed moments of levity. However, these highlights are overshadowed by the lackluster screenplay.

On the other hand, the story evokes the vibe of the 1993 film Gumrah, starring Sridevi and Sanjay Dutt, with a comparable plot involving a drug case in an Eastern country leading to the execution of the accused.
The narrative, though packed with edgy twists, feels overly tense and painfully predictable. What could have been an engaging thriller turns into a tedious ordeal, leaving viewers frustrated. The pacing drags, and the twists, instead of being exciting, become repetitive and uninspired.
At an overlong runtime, the movie struggles to maintain interest, and by the time it ends, audiences are simply relieved it’s over. If you haven’t watched it yet, rest assured—you’re not missing anything groundbreaking.
Ultimately, while there are flashes of potential, the poorly executed screenplay and predictable plot make this film a forgettable experience. A missed opportunity for what could have been a gripping thriller.
