Movie Name: Do Patti
Cast: Kajol, Kriti Sanon, Shaheer Sheikh, Tanvi Azmi
Director: Shashanka Chaturvedi
Genre: Drama, Mystery
Available on: Netflix
The film attempts to tackle a serious subject but falters in delivering its intended message effectively. Indian directors should note that a good mystery doesn’t need excessive songs and unrelated scenes. Instead, it benefits from a tight screenplay, concise dialogues, and a focused narrative.
Kajol shines as a veteran actor, skillfully portraying her first role as a police officer, while Kriti Sanon impresses with her versatility in a double role. The story revolves around a powerful, female-driven cast, which is refreshing, but unfortunately, the execution doesn’t do justice to the premise.
The film could have delivered a more impactful experience with fewer songs and stronger dialogues. The screenplay is loose, and the plot twist is fairly predictable, undermining the suspense that the genre demands.
SPOILER ALERT
One particularly puzzling choice was having Kajol play both a police officer and a lawyer, a dual role that feels forced. While her character’s legal background is briefly referenced, it doesn’t justify why another actor wasn’t cast as the lawyer, and the decision detracts from the film’s realism.
Overall, the movie doesn’t offer enough substance to be memorable. Audiences looking for a well-executed narrative on similar themes would do better revisiting impactful films like Parched, Thappad, or Provoked. Although the lead performances are commendable, the movie lacks the depth and crispness that would make it a strong contender in the genre.
