Sirf Ek Banda Kaafi Hai

The movie itself tells you that this is a one-man army. And indeed, it is! The movie had Manoj Bajpayee… Need I say more?

A simple movie showing the struggles of middle-class families with a serious plot that was dealt with the utmost tenderness. There are several new artists in the movie and they are complimenting Bajpayee in a wonderful way. I might be sounding greedy but after ‘The Family Man’ I actually wanted Sharib Hashmi to accompany Bajpayee in the movie. I am not saying that Kaustav Sinha didn’t do a good job. But I would be lying if I say that I was satisfied with his screen presence. Maybe they wanted to showcase Bajpayee more, giving everyone else in the movie less screen time.

The movie gave us ample knowledge of the POCSO Act, which is the need of the hour. It was also necessary for any movie dealing with courtroom drama to give us detailed information about the case and its related Acts.

Dealing with a sensitive topic, the movie has an uncanny resemblance to the Asaram Bapu case. The way the plot was weaved and the characters shown related to the case was quite similar to the actual Indian case. Even the costumes and make-up were exactly like the real people. The movie also showed Narayan Sai and other legal figures that were involved in the case.

Somehow, we all knew the outcome of the movie but watching a courtroom drama where justice is correctly served is something that all movie buffs crave. Bajpayee’s dialogue delivery and body language were superb. He is undoubtedly one of the finest actors our country has. The best part was the last story that he told in his closing statement in court. Although, we all knew the story of Ramayana, however, the way he explained paap, ati paap, and maha paap was simply commendable.

The dialogues in the movie were subtle yet powerful and the delivery by Manoj Bajpayee was admirable. The length of the movie was also crisp and not for a moment will you feel bored. I like how the new movies can be without any songs and yet be entertaining. Although, we hear a beautiful song in the end credits of the movie, sung by none other than Sonu Nigam which exhibits the essence of the movie in a wholesome way.

A beautiful movie for those who love courtroom dramas and for those who need a feel-good movie for the weekend. And of course, for those who love acting, Bajpayee gives you a powerful dose of performance.
